Windlesham is a charming Surrey Heath village in South East England. Like its near neighbors Virginia Water, Bagshot and Chobham, it is situated in the beautiful district of Surrey.
Windlesham derives its name from Windle Brook, which starts in Swinley Forest of Berkshire and runs around the south of the village to Chomham. The area is rich in history as some Neolithic tools and tools believed to date back to the Bronze Age have been unearthed. Today, Windlesham is a thriving community with a wonderful village spirit. This village is a fabulous place to live if access to Heathrow Airport and central London is important. Its convenient location near junction 3 of the M3 has also attracted major businesses including Eli Lilly and Rainbow Play Systems. The village of Windlesham used to be a small community in Windsor Great Park. Built as a remote farming settlement around rolling moors, similar to Sunninghill. This quiet corner of the county seems to have been too sparsely populated to be mentioned in the Domesday Book. Historical records mention the exploits of outlaws who once plagued the area - no doubt why Windlesham Golf Club hosts its own Highwaymen's events. Windlesham village field has a leisure park and busy playground. A number of much-loved village events take place on the pitch. The most famous of these events is the annual Windlesham Fete. The pitch is also used by Windlesham Cricket Club in the summer months, creating the perfect scene of an English village. Windlesham is also famous for its annual buggy race; the charity event usually takes place on Boxing Day and involves local residents dressing up in fancy dress, completing a 3.5 kilometer route through the village of Windlesham, stopping at local pubs along the way. Windlesham also offers a variety of sporting activities. It is not only famous for its golf club, but also has a thriving running club. Windle Valley Runners running club is suitable for all running standards. The club meets three times a week and members can join for fun, fitness or competition. Windlesham Society encourages people living in the neighborhood to get actively involved in the community and give back to your local community. Famous Windlesham residents past and present include Dr Brian May from the rock band Queen, Brian Blessed, Sir Nick Faldo, Agatha Christie, Glen Hoddle, Sarah and the Duchess of York! Windlesham is a popular area for many Middle Eastern royal families who enjoy being close to Ascot for horse racing.
