Mexico defeated Saudi Arabia but was eliminated from the last 16
Mexico defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 in World Cup Group C, but on goal differential, they were cruelly denied advancing to the round of 16. Henry Martin and Luis Chavez scored goals in quick succession in the second half to put Mexico on track to go to the round of 16. Uriel Antuna also scored, but his goal was ruled out for offside. Salem Al-Dawsari scored a goal for Saudi Arabia in stoppage time. Mexico ended with four points, tying Poland, who lost 2-0 to Argentina, the group winners, and advanced on the strength of their superior goal differential of one.
